Wilkie Collins (1824-1889) était un écrivain Anglais. Il a écrit trente romans, une soixantaine de nouvelles, quatorze pièces de théâtre, ainsi que plus d'une centaine d'autres textes non fictifs. Il fut très populaire à l'époque victorienne aux côtés de son ami, Charles Dickens. Ils ont d'ailleurs tout deux collaboré sur plusieurs oeuvres.
Pour la petite histoire, Wilkie Collins a déclaré en 1870 (Guerre franco-Prussienne) : " I begin to believe in only one civilising influence - the discovery one of these days of a destructive agent so terrible that War shall mean annihilation and men's fears will force them to keep peace."
